Forfeit & Refund Policy

Effective date: June 1, 2026

Draft for review. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly when and how much Commit charges you. It supplements the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy from Nicholas Hughes.

1. How Charges Work

You set a daily step goal and a daily stake of $1 to $10. Each day, the app reads your step count from Apple HealthKit and checks it against your goal:

Forfeits are charged nightly. There is one charge per missed day, equal to your daily stake. Over a commitment, your total forfeit equals your daily stake multiplied by the number of missed days — but it is billed one missed day at a time, not in a single lump sum.

Example: a $5 daily stake with three missed days results in three separate $5 charges, for $15 total.

2. How You Are Charged

When you start a commitment, you save a payment method through Stripe. You authorize Commit to charge that payment method automatically and off-session whenever a day is missed. We never store your full card number — only a secure payment-method token from Stripe.

3. How to Avoid Charges

Meet your daily step goal. If your step count reaches your goal for the day, no forfeit occurs and you are not charged for that day. Meet your goal every day of a commitment and you pay nothing.

4. Refunds

Missed-day forfeits are non-refundable. The forfeit is the accountability mechanic itself — the real stakes are the point of the Service — so a missed day that has been charged is not reversed simply because you changed your mind. If you believe a charge was made in error (for example, a genuine technical or billing mistake), contact us using the details below and we will review it.

5. If Your Card Is Declined

If a nightly charge cannot be completed — for example, your card is declined or expired — the amount remains owed. We will attempt to recover it and the app will prompt you to update your payment method. Once a valid payment method is on file, the outstanding forfeit will be charged. Keeping a working payment method current is your responsibility.

6. No Cancellation

In this phase of the Service, a commitment cannot be cancelled once it starts; it runs to its deadline. Forfeits for days missed before the deadline remain due. Deleting your account does not waive amounts already owed for missed days that occurred before deletion.

7. Billing Disputes

For any billing question or dispute, contact us at [email protected] before disputing the charge with your bank, so we can resolve it quickly.
